Linear Technology and ASSET collaborate to bring boundary-scan tools to power management devices
Richardson, TX, and Milpitas, CA – ASSET® InterTech (www.asset-intertech.com), the leading supplier of tools for embedded instrumentation, and Linear Technology Corp. (www.linear.com) have collaborated to combine the programming and configuration capabilities of Linear Technology’s LTpowerPlay™ software with the JTAG/ boundary-scan test capabilities of ASSET’s ScanWorks® platform for embedded instruments.
As a result of this collaboration, ScanWorks becomes a powerful toolkit for programming Linear Technology’s digital PMbus power management chips that feature EEPROM memory after they have been soldered to a circuit board. These devices include the LTC2974 and LTC2978 Quad and Octal PMBus Power Supply Managers, and the LTC3880 Dual Output PolyPhase Step-Down DC/DC Controller with Digital Power System Management.
“This will streamline in-system device programming and configuration for ScanWorks users who have certain PMBus power management devices from Linear Technology on their circuit board designs. By integrating certain LTpowerPlay source files, we have been able to enhance the versatility of the ScanWorks platform’s already powerful model-based programming tools,” said Kent Zetterberg, ASSET’s product manager for ScanWorks boundary-scan test tools. “Instead of multiple vendor-specific software tools – each with its own hardware connectivity – manufacturers will be able to reduce test and programming costs significantly by applying ScanWorks during prototype board bring-up and then again later during volume production. Test re-use can also reduce tests costs for the manufacturer considerably.”
“This is just another way we’re trying to better serve our user base,” said Mike Holloway, applications engineering section leader, of Linear Technology. “Since a number of our users have deployed ScanWorks in debug applications as well as in volume manufacturing, they will be able to save time and effort by performing multiple functions from a common tool platform. This will enhance the efficiency of their design and production operations. ”
