ScanWorks® Boundary Scan Manufacturing Station

PDF Download

With the ScanWorks Boundary Scan Manufacturing Station, companies can ensure a higher level of quality for their products because boundary scan gives them test coverage where physical access is not an option. And the return on investment from ScanWorks is very rapid because boundary-scan tests and programming algorithms developed during research and development can be re-used in manufacturing with no alterations.

The ScanWorks Boundary Scan Manufacturing Station provides a cost-effective means of applying JTAG vectors during high-volume manufacturing. In addition, ScanWorks increases the value of the ICT equipment many manufacturers currently have by sharing the burden of test between ICT and ScanWorks stations. This reduces the cost of ICT fixtures by decreasing the complexity of fixtures. The throughput of the manufacturing line is increased and the effectiveness of ICT-based test is improved. In fact, ScanWorks has been integrated with Agilent's 3070 ICT systems, offering seamless and simple operations of ScanWorks on 3070 systems.

Some of the benefits of the ScanWorks Boundary Scan Manufacturing Station include:

  • Increased product quality through higher test coverage brought about by using JTAG ( boundary scan) to perform access-less structural test
  • Rapid return on investment through the re-use of JTAG test and programming vectors developed during a product's design stage
  • Low operator training required because of ScanWorks' simple user interface or by integrating ScanWorks with familiar test executives like LabVIEW®, LabWindows/CVI®, HP-VEE™ or Visual Basic
  • Increased throughput on a manufacturing line by offloading selected vectors from ICT to ScanWorks stations
  • Reduced ICT fixture costs by moving tests to ScanWorks from the ICT system
  • Increased speed of programming on-board devices through ScanWorks' high programming clock speeds and parallel multi-board programming capabilities
  • Facilitate efficient flow through manufacturing by using ScanWorks' scripting languages (Tcl and Perl)
  • Quickly isolate and diagnose failures

The Boundary Scan Diagnostic & Repair Station includes features like the design manager, scan path verification, pin-level diagnostics for interconnect tests, test results windows for each test type, graphical fault highlighting, and the test sequencer. You also have access to the interactive debugger and scan analyzer, and macros to create custom tests to control and observe specific device pins to isolate defects.

Optional products include:

ScanWorks in Functional and Enviromental Test

The ScanWorks Manufacturing Station can increase the effectiveness of functional and environmental chamber testing. For example, the vacuum pressure of ICT test systems sometimes closes open circuits on a PCB, falsely passing the board through to functional test. Instead, a ScanWorks station can reduce the time spent during functional test by screening boards for structural deficiencies.

And because of the extended cable length of a ScanWorks Manufacturing Station, ScanWorks can be running on a PC outside of an environmental chamber while tests are performed in the chamber. As conditions in the chamber are altered, ScanWorks can monitor the performance of the board and determine when and under what sort of stresses a failure was induced.
