ScanWorks® Boundary Scan Development Station

PDF Download

The Boundary Scan Development Station is one of the four configurations of the ScanWorks boundary-scan (JTAG) test and on-board programming environment. The Boundary Scan Development Station features boundary scan technology software modules from the ScanWorks environment which help users of JTAG technology get started quickly. Some of these test capabilities are also included in the ScanWorks Boundary Scan Diagnostics & Repair Station and the ScanWorks Boundary Scan Programming Station.

Several of the major benefits of boundary scan and the ScanWorks Boundary Scan Development Station are:

  • Easy importing of CAE/CAD design data and boundary scan description language (BSDL) data which is used to automatically generate interconnect tests, scan path verification tests and graphical views
  • Compile a description of the JTAG / boundary scan technology thru BSDLs of the design and use this database description for test generation and diagnostics
  • Organize and manage tests, design data and programming data for greater JTAG testability

As the name implies, the ScanWorks Boundary Scan Development Station has features like the Design Manager, which accelerates the automatic generation of JTAG tests and manages the flow of the design and device data that is needed to compile boundary scan tests. These tests can be applied to both boundary-scan and non-boundary-scan devices on the board. The Boundary Scan Development Station is also used to test and diagnose prototype boards during design. Its diagnostics capabilities can extend down to the net and pin level.

ScanWorks compiles tests and programming processes into what it calls an action. Actions include all of the data and instructions needed to run a test and diagnose the results. Actions can be organized into sequences. Actions and sequences are often associated with a design and exported to manufacturing when the product is ready for assembly.

The ScanWorks Boundary Scan Development Station can be equipped with a design browser interface, providing the system with a web-based and easy-to-use collaboration and communications tool. The design browser can also be used to pinpoint faults in a layout view and to share CAE or CAD information with co-workers who may not have access to the CAE/CAD systems.
