Glenn Woppman named one of only four finalists for EDN’s Innovator of the Year award

DesignCon paper

The editors of EDN magazine, an influential publication for the electronic design industry, have selected Glenn Woppman, president and CEO of ASSET, as one of four finalists in the 19th annual Innovator of the Year award competition.

The winner from among the four finalists has been decided through an online voting procedure on the EDN web site. The winner will be announced at a gala put on by EDN on March 30.

According to the EDN web site, “The Innovator of the Year award recognizes an electronics engineer or engineering team for innovation in product design or technical leadership.” EDN editors received hundreds of nominations for EDN’s 2008 Innovation Awards program, which honors leading products and technologies, and the innovators who develop them. From among the submissions, Woppman was chosen as one of the four finalists in the prestigious “2008 Innovator of the Year” category.

Woppman was nominated for the award because of his visionary technical leadership. Dating back to the mid-1990s, he played a critical role in the development and industry adoption of the IEEE 1149.1 Boundary-Scan (JTAG) Standard. More recently, he has provided innovative leadership in the emerging area of open tools for embedded instrumentation. He and his ASSET team have championed new emerging embedded instrumentation technologies, such as IEEE P1149.7, a standard for a reduced pin count and enhanced test access port, and IEEE P1687, a methodology for accessing and controlling test and debug features embedded in silicon.
