OBSERVATIONS

Momentum Gathering Behind Embedded Instrumentation
by Glenn Woppman
President and CEO of ASSET InterTech

Since last May when we re-aligned ASSET as the first provider of open tools for embedded instrumentation, we've received a number of encouraging signs from the marketplace. For instance, other technology providers agree with us that embedded instrumentation is critical to the future of the electronics industry. And that means that the industry gets it. When we describe our vision, heads nod and light bulbs turn on. Certainly getting the word out on embedded instrumentation will take time, but so far, so good.

INSIDE ASSET

A contemporary allegory – Part 2:
Mr. PCB teaches Chip a thing or two about JTAG compliance

Attentive Connect readers will recall that in our last installment we recounted the tale of Mr. PCB, the wizened veteran of the industry’s trench warfare, and Chip, the brash youngster with the air of invincibility about him. When we left these two, Mr. PCB had been instructing his young compatriot on the whys and wherefores of IEEE 1149.1 boundary scan compliance in semiconductor devices, not to be confused with chips. Our scribe, one Dave Bonnett, ASSET’s roving Product Manager, picks up the tale where we left off.

Industry's first Internet-based controller takes place and time out of the test equation

Special limited-time offer:
FREE ScanWorks upgrade with the purchase of a new controller

World Wide Test may not have the same ring as World Wide Web, but the concepts are the same. Just as users have access to the web anywhere they have access to the Internet, so too ScanWorks users have access to a unit-under-test (UUT) anywhere there is one of ASSET’s new Remote Instrumentation Controllers (RIC-1000) and the Internet. Access via the Internet removes place and time from the test equation.
