New ScanWorks licensing options

The latest version of ScanWorks (version 3.6) incorporates several innovative licensing options intended to speed up the activation of new licenses and to assist users in an emergency or peak load situation.

“Our concept of emergency license tokens came about because we wanted to give ScanWorks users more flexibility so they could deal with unexpected circumstances,” said Arden Bjerkeli, ASSET’s director of customer applications support. “We also wanted to expedite the entire licensing process by allowing customers to go to our web site to activate a license in a matter of seconds. Self-service license activation eliminates the involvement of anyone besides the user.”

Self-service license authorization occurs after the user has installed ScanWorks from a CD on a PC. An “Authorization Manager” dialog box appears, giving the user the option to “Get a license using the ASSET web site service.” If this option is selected, the user next enters the station’s serial number, the order number and host ID number. After providing a name, e-mail address and phone number, the process is complete, a license file is automatically created and installed, and ScanWorks is ready to be launched and put into operation.

Emergency License Tokens

ScanWorks’ new emergency license tokens are a first in the test industry. Because of this innovation, ScanWorks users have the confidence that they will always have access to a licensed ScanWorks station even when a PC fails or some other catastrophe occurs. And if the organization is experiencing a peak work load, license tokens can be used to temporarily supplement the number of ScanWorks stations that are available. In any event, ASSET can meet the licensing needs of its users at any time of day, and on any day of the week or year.

Emergency license tokens can be purchased by a company-issued purchase order at any time, or the user can simply go to the ASSET web site and procure tokens with a credit card and the tokens become immediately available for redemption. The emergency license tokens function as a very short-term license against an existing ScanWorks station. Tokens for ScanWorks Manufacturing Stations and Programming Stations have a four-day term. Tokens for Interconnect Development Stations, Interconnect Repair Stations, Test Development Stations and Diagnostic and Repair Stations expire after 30 days. License tokens can be purchased at any time and the term of the license token will not begin until it is activated by the user.
