INSIDE ASSET

Agilent and ASSET collaborate on new 3070 test re-use products

ASSET and Agilent Technologies have collaborated on two new boundary-scan test re-use solutions that enable the seamless re-use of design validation tests in manufacturing and even field service. The new cost-effective solutions put test re-use within reach of a greater number of manufacturers, even those with a relatively low volume of boundary-scan test.

Two new solutions join the previously announced ScanWorks for the 3070 Fully Integrated solution to expand significantly the price/performance options the two companies offer.

“These new JTAG re-use products are the outcome of the three-year joint marketing and software licensing agreement our two companies have had,” said John Herczeg, support and in-circuit marketing manager for Agilent Technologies’ Manufacturing Test Business Unit. “We’ve been able to expand on our fully integrated ScanWorks® for the 3070 solution and provide a full slate of solutions that meet the widely divergent needs of developers and manufacturers.”

“The two new product configurations that we’ve developed make the most of our best-in-class technology to better serve the evolving needs of electronics manufacturers,” said Glenn Woppman, president of ASSET InterTech. “They also demonstrate how the relationship between ASSET and Agilent has progressed to the point where we are working closely together on new product development, technical support and strategic directions. As with any long-standing strategic partnership, both parties must benefit from it and our two companies certainly have benefited from this one.”

Blending ScanWorks and the 3070

The two new test re-use solutions merge the capabilities of a ScanWorks Manufacturing Station with the Agilent 3070 ICT system. The final configuration of the solution is determined by a number of factors, including the volume of test, the financial requirements of the user organization and the current configuration of the user’s 3070 system. The two new solutions are known as ScanWorks for the 3070 Externally Integrated solution and ScanWorks for the 3070 Internally Integrated solution.

• Externally Integrated Solution for
   Agilent 3070 UNIX Systems

The ScanWorks for the 3070 Externally Integrated solution involves a low-investment PC-based ScanWorks Manufacturing Station, which provides basic benchtop boundary-scan test and programming while acting as the platform for test re-use operations on the 3070 UNIX system via a network connection. This solution is composed of a standard ASSET ScanWorks Manufacturing Station with a PCI-100 hardware kit and software to interface ScanWorks and a 3070 UNIX system over a network. With the Scanworks for the 3070 Externally Integrated solution, test sequences developed for a ScanWorks Manufacturing Station can be run on the 3070 UNIX ICT system. Pass/fail test results as well as failure information are displayed on the 3070.

• Internally Integrated Solution for
   Agilent 3070 Dual-Controller Systems

Some Agilent 3070 users must continue to run legacy 3070 UNIX tests as they migrate new tests to the 3070 PC controller. As a result, Agilent supports a dual-controller strategy through which one bed-of-nails 3070 test head interfaces to both a 3070 UNIX controller and a 3070 PC controller. The ScanWorks for the 3070 Internally Integrated solution is available for these users.

The ScanWorks for the 3070 Internally Integrated solution combines the configuration described above for 3070 systems when the UNIX controller is functioning with an internal integration whereby ScanWorks software tools are integrated onto the 3070’s internal PC controller.

Financial incentives are provided to ensure a maximum return on investment in either the ScanWorks for the 3070 Externally Integrated or the ScanWorks for the 3070 Internally Integrated solutions for those users who, because of their increasing volume of boundary scan test and programming operations, eventually migrate at a later time to a ScanWorks for the 3070 Fully Integrated solution.

• Fully Integrated Solution for
   Agilent 3070 PC Systems

The ScanWorks for the 3070 Fully Integrated solution, which was announced in January of 2002, is available to 3070 users who have a PC controller or who have upgraded a 3070 UNIX controller to a PC controller. This configuration seamlessly integrates a full ScanWorks Manufacturing Station onto the 3070 PC controller for a “best-in-class” solution. This solution is available exclusively from Agilent Technologies. It is the only completely seamless boundary-scan solution for the 3070. It integrates ScanWorks’ software tools and the high-throughput PCI-400 JTAG interface with four test access ports (TAPs) into the 3070.

All three of the ASSET/Agilent boundary-scan test re-use solutions are fully supported globally by both Agilent and ASSET.
